The Hewitt School (NYC) Launches Courageous and Audacious Vision

Some schools talk the talk, while others walk the walk. This story is about the latter. Last week, The Hewitt School – an all-girls college preparatory school located in the Upper East Side of New York City – launched their bold new strategic vision for the future. And, it is everything other than a traditional, also-ran strategic plan. It is a story of redefining – and redesigning – the school experience from the ground up toward a relevant, learning community for tomorrow.

The core of the Hewitt vision rests on a new mission and three strategic commitments in their vision. The new mission of Hewitt:

The Hewitt School inspires girls and young women to become game changers and ethical leaders who forge an equitable, sustainable, and joyous future.

To achieve this ambitious and bold new mission, Hewitt will embark upon the following three major commitments:

  1. Redesign learning around transdisciplinary real-world challenges to build students’ leadership capacity and sense of purpose.

  2. Reimagine where school happens to take full advantage of immersive, collaborative, and hands-on learning in New York City.

  3. Redefine women’s leadership by convening student, academic, and industry leaders to challenge, transcend, and transform conventional assumptions about gender, power, and leadership in our society.

ISA worked with Hewitt throughout the past 18 months to forge this new mission and vision, strategic goals, and supporting action plans. But, the credit goes to the school leadership, faculty, staff, and board, who never veered away from reconstructing education for girls in a new paradigm.

Educators, you will hear a lot more about Hewitt over the course of the next few months and years. They have developed a courageous plan that many aspire to embark upon but few cross the finish line. Well done, Hewitt School community!
