Hawai‘i School for Girls at La Pietra

Revealing a bold new identity grounded in place, purpose, and possibility.

Hawai‘i School for Girls at La Pietra is an independent college-preparatory school in Honolulu that empowers young women through experiential learning, global engagement, and a deep connection to place. As the school prepared to unveil a new strategic plan, leadership recognized the opportunity to evolve the brand alongside it—reflecting the school’s forward-looking vision while honoring the landscape and community that define its identity.

The Challenge

While the mission and programs at Hawai‘i School for Girls at La Pietra had grown increasingly forward-looking, the existing brand no longer captured the confidence and energy of the institution. Leadership wanted an identity that could express both the strength of its setting beneath Diamond Head and the transformational journey students experience during their time at the school.

The new identity needed to balance several important priorities: it had to feel modern and bold, resonate with prospective families around the world, and remain deeply rooted in the place and traditions that define Hawai‘i School for Girls at La Pietra.

At the same time, the rebrand needed to align with the school’s forthcoming strategic plan and provide a cohesive visual language that could carry across publications, communications, and the website.

Our Solution

The design process began by grounding the visual direction in four defining personality traits for Hawai‘i School for Girls at La Pietra: Courageous, Innovative, Impactful, and Purposeful. These principles became the lens for every creative decision, guiding the tone, forms, and design direction that would ultimately shape the new identity.

At the heart of the brand is a distinctive mark inspired by three elements deeply connected to Hawai‘i School for Girls at La Pietra: Diamond Head, the surrounding ocean, and the campus archways. Together they create a symbol rooted in place and focused on forward movement. The arch reflects the school’s role in guiding students through a transformative season of growth, while Diamond Head anchors the identity in its iconic setting beneath Lēʻahi.

From this foundation, the broader system began to take shape. The arch’s sweeping curve and the energy of the waves informed graphic forms, layouts, and supporting elements, creating a design language that reflects the school’s environment while conveying movement and progress.

The identity extended beyond the logo into a refreshed color palette and typography system used across key communications. It debuted alongside the school’s newly designed strategic plan publication and was carried through a refreshed website experience, creating a cohesive and confident expression of Hawai‘i School for Girls at La Pietra across print and digital platforms.
